Balanced Diet

Children are taught about the importance of eating a balanced diet and encouraged to make 'healthy choices'.  The 'five a day' fruit and vegetable ideology is taught and practiced.  Supporting children to control their portion size is very important.  Children are made aware of the traffic light system on food packaging - green for go!

 

Children are encouraged to touch, smell and taste new foods - this can be daunting for some but is very rewarding to find something new which they like.

Dietary requirements

Children who require halal foods are taught to recognise the halal symbol on food packaging and are supported to become independent and responsible for knowing what they can and cannot eat.  Similarly, children who are intolerant to ingredients or foods such as nuts are supported to become aware of their intolerance and taught to check the packaging of food items.
