Summer 1

Welcome back to Summer 1 and the sunshine.   The children and the adults are all very happy to be back together as a whole class. The class team is now myself Colette the class teacher, Jaimi TA3 and Marianne and Alison TA1s. We have also welcomed two new children Garv and Zaarif who have settled into Hummingbird class well.

 

The children are happy to be back at school and are already following our routines and structures very well.

 

Our English book this half term is Barry the fish with fingers.

 

We have lots of exciting props to explore when reading the book.  We will complete lots of English activities linked to this lovely story speaking and listening, writing, reading, ICT and craft activities.

 

Have you EVER seen a fish with fingers?

 

No?

 

Well, neither had the fish at the bottom of the ocean ...

 

This crazy deep-sea caper is sure to be a hit with all kids

 

In Maths we will be spending a week studying the following areas money, number, measure, using and applying and positional language.

 

Cookery this half term we will be making fork cakes flavoured with chocolate chips, raisin and cranberry and white chocolate.

 

We will be having regular walks in the local community this half term.

 

PE will be on a Tuesday and Wednesday and we will be doing racket games  and Expressive Arts will be with Coral on a Tuesday.

Hummingbird Maths 

Hummingbird class have been learning about money in Maths and have been exchanging coins for a snack.

Welcome Back

Welcome back to Autumn 2, I hope you all had a good half term break.  An update on staff and children we now have Jaimini as the TA3 in class as Carla has moved to a different class and we have Faiaz in Hummingbird class now.

This half term we will be studying The three Billy Goats Gruff and we will be participating in writing, reading and speaking and listening activities linked to this book.

 

 

"Who's that trip-trapping over my bridge?" Based on the traditional fairy tale The Three Billy Goats Gruff, this vibrantly illustrated story.

In Maths we will be studying areas such as Number, Measure and Using and Applying.

Our thematic unit is Shine the light and celebrate and we will be looking at specific areas such as Fireworks, Diwali, Hanukkah, Shadows, light and dark and finishing the half term with Christmas.

Unfortunately we will not be able to do any trips this half term; however we are planning a local walk in the community.

Welcome

Welcome to the Hummingbird class page.  I hope everybody enjoyed their Summer and kept safe and well. My name is Colette and I am the classroom teacher.  I am supported in class by Carla TA3 and Elle and Marianne TA1 s. 

 

Hummingbird class is a shoots class and we following a semi – formal curriculum.  It is a life skills based curriculum, developing personal independence and continueing to build on communication.  Children will continue to build upon learning to learn skills, able to attend, play and self-occupy for extending periods of time.
 

The children are happy to be back at school and are already following our routines and structures very well.

Our English book this half term is The train ride.

Climb aboard for a rhythmic train ride through the country. There's lots to see and someone very special waiting at the end!

A little girl and her mother board the train in town and set off on a journey through the countryside. As they travel, the girl looks out of the window, asking "What shall I see? What shall I see?" And what does she see? Sheep, cows, horses and much more!

We have lots of exciting props to explore when reading the book. 

 

We will complete lots of English activities linked to this lovely story speaking and listening, writing, reading , ICT and craft activities.

 

In Maths we will be spending a week studying the following areas money, number, measure, using and applying and positional language.

 

In PSHE we will following a recovery curriculum that is designed to support the children’s return to full time school after such a long time away.  We will be following the process of the catch it bin it procedure. Our Topic this half term is All about me and each week we are studying a different area including likes and dislikes, friends, family, senses and body parts. Our Assemblies will be linked to these areas.

 

Cookery this half term we will be making sandwiches and the fillings will include jam, tuna and cucumber, marmite, soft cheese and chocolate spread.

 

We will not be going out on any trips this half term as our focus is settling the children back into school; however we will have walks in the local community.

 

PE with Owen will be on a Tuesday and Wednesday and Expressive Arts will be with Coral on a Tuesday.
