Summer 2

Dunstable Splash Park

Topic

During topic lessons,- Treasure Island Summer 2, we have been dressing up as Pirates and dancing/singing along to one of our favourite songs 'Portside Pirates'.

Welcome to Peacock’s class page, let me introduce you to our staff…  I am Laura the Class Teacher, Coral and Gemma are our TA2’s and we have our teaching assistants Theresa and Vickie. The pupils in Peacock class are:  Ayaan, Adyan, Ethan, Harjot, Mahir, Zain, Zayan and Tyler.

 

During Summer term 2, the pupils in year three will be visiting Richmond Hill West site, several times, as part of their transition preparation for September. As they all enjoyed gardening with Vicky last half term, she will be joining us this half term to do some planting again. They will be preparing for the East meets West annual festival held at the end of the half term and will enjoy a planned trip to the splash park with their friends, Bluebird class. LOTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO!! including sports day and the summer fete.

 

Topic

This half term, our topic is ‘Treasure Island’, which focuses on the subjects of Drama and Science. During topic lessons, the pupils will experience role play and have lots of opportunities to experiment with water.  

 

Literacy

This half term, Peacock class will be reading the story ‘Mrs Pirate’ by Nick Sharratt.

In phonics, the pupils will be working in different ability groups. All pupils are working on phase 1 or 2 of RWI and identifying sounds within the environment. There are many lovely phonics songs online, which the pupils can watch with parents at home.

In write dance sessions, the pupils will develop their fine motor skills by making colourful marks liked to our topic ‘pirates’, where they will be drawing different shapes to create a boat.

During speaking and listening sessions, the pupils will be working on their listening skills, working on key words and following 1-2 step instructions and key words.

 

 

Maths

In maths, we will be covering each strand weekly-  Measure, Number and Geometry. The pupils will be working on capacity to link to topic and water. We are continuing to regularly look at the height measure chart to see how much they have grown this year and will focus on hot and cold. They will still be practising their understanding of money, by using one lesson a week to visit Asda. Further to this, we will be linking maths into attention skills sessions to extend their practice of this lesson.

 

ICT

This half term in computing the theme is to look through this years different schemes of work and allow the pupils to develop their skills in all different areas, which they are already familiar with.

Summer 1

Stockwood Discovery Center

Peacock class visited Stockwood discovery center, they looked at different olden day transport and enjoyed the sunshine.

Gardening

Peacock class visited their Buddy class at West site (Orange class year 4) on Monday 29th April. They shared in gardening activities and were rewarded with a snack and drink for their hard work.

During Summer term 1, the pupils in year three will be visiting their friends at West site (year 4). This trip is supporting their transition ready for next year and they will be working with the specialist gardening teacher we have on West site. This will give them a taste of the exciting activities they have too look forward to in their future Richmond Hill career.  

 

Topic

This half term, our topic is ‘Kings & Queens and All things Royal’, which focuses on the subjects of history and geography. During topic lessons, the pupils will be experience sensory materials to become a king or queen and be presented with information/ pictures of the royal family.  

Literacy

This half term, Peacock class will be reading the story ‘Supertato’ by Sue Hendra. This is a lovely story and will give the pupils lots of opportunities to practice their fine motor skills.

Spring 2

Trip to the Zoo

This half term, year 3 have been studying animals and their life cycles. 

Peacock class had a wonderful time at the Zoo on 29/03/2019. 

We saw lots of different animals and enjoyed a bird show at the end of the day.

Pancake Day

Peacock class really enjoyed pancake day. We made our own, flipped pancakes, got involved in pancake races and tried pancakes and lots of different toppings including lemon. YUM!

During Spring term 2, the pupils in year three will be experiencing a day at the zoo. This trip is linked to this half terms topic and we will be paying special attention to the butterfly farm there. We will also be visiting West site to see our buddy class.

 

Topic

This half term, our topic is ‘The Cycles of Life’, which focuses on the subjects of Science and PSHE. During topic lessons, the pupils will be experience the life cycle of a butterfly and other animals.

 

Literacy

This half term, Peacock class will be reading the story ‘Titch’ by Pat Hutchins. This links itself nicely to cross curricular as it supports learning in maths- size and PSHE- understanding the world and our topic of life cycles.

This half-terms skills sessions will support the pupils to understand the basics of coding and programming. become a programmer by inputting a code (set of instructions) to a floor turtle to make it move or by pressing arrows on a screen to make an object move. They will also follow simple codes themselves to perform an action or sequence of actions.

Spring 1

We would like to introduce our new child into our class who is settling in very well! 

 

Our second lot of pictures is us at McDonalds as part of our topic 'Come dine with me' - we are learning to visit restaurants.

During Spring term 1, the pupils in year three will be enjoying lots of local trips out into the community linked to our topic learning.

 

Topic

This half term, our topic is ‘Come dine with me’, which focuses on the subjects of DT, cookery and PSHE. During topic lessons, the pupils will be exploring different cuisines in any way they are able to. They will experience different cultures through traditional foods found in different countries, using their senses of taste, sight, smell, and touch. The pupils will incorporate art and DT to the topic lessons and have lots of opportunity to visit restaurants to support their understanding.

 

Literacy

This half term is based on traditional rhymes and poems. Peacock class will be starting with the classic rhyme ‘Humpty Dumpty’. There are many versions of this popular rhyme, which will support the pupils to join in and enjoy learning how to play with rhyming words at a basic level. Amazon’s description of the book: A favorite nursery rhyme. What if Humpty could be put together again?

 

In phonics, the pupils will be working in different ability groups. All pupils are working on phase 1 or 2 of RWI and identifying sounds within the environment. There are many lovely phonics songs online, which the pupils can watch with parents at home.

In write dance sessions, the pupils will develop their fine motor skills by making colourful marks based on the rhyme Humpty Dumpty.

This half-terms skills sessions will involve animation and design. They will become a designer by using a design package to add design to something on screen and print it. They will watch simple animations on screen and use animation programs to animate pictures on screen.

Autumn 2

Topic

As part of our topic 'Over the Rainbow' this half term, we have been looking at a different colour each week.

During Autumn Term 2, Peacock class will be joining the school festivities and celebrating the fun that take place nationally at this time of the year. this will include; fundraising for Children in Need, setting up our own stall at our annual winter wonderland and taking part in the trip to Gullivers land, which includes a visit to Santa.

 

Topic

This half term, our topic is ‘over the rainbow’, which focuses on the subjects of art and science. During topic lessons the pupils will be experiencing and engaging in different colour based activities. the expectations for Peacock class will to be able to name/recognise some or all of the 7 colours; participate in colour mixing activities and contribute to a colourful art display in class.

 

Literacy

This half term we will be reading ‘Sleeping Beauty’ a traditional tale.

Each lesson will have a colourful semantics task, where some pupils will be developing their understanding of who and what doing questions or matching the main characters to toys or pictures.

 

In write dance sessions, the pupils will develop their fine motor skills by making colourful marks to create a rainbow.

The pupils will have one of their weekly maths lessons based in the attention skills style to help them focus on a specific objective. they will also be continuing their Asda trips.

 

ICT

This half-term pupils will be story making in their skills sessions. This will be based on their chosen traditional tale- Sleeping Beauty. The pupils will make their own versions of the story using a specially created PowerPoint program.

Autumn 1

Autumn 1 Update

This week Peacock class have been learning in the environment. 

 

On Tuesday we went to Gymnastics as part of our topic 'Champions'. 

On Thursday we were practicing our social skills by playing with friends at Snakes and Ladder's and eating in our favorite restaurant. 

We had a brilliant time.

Two Sites One School

Orange class and peacock class (east meets west side by side buddies) got together for a fist meet. 

It was during our cookery slot so we iced biscuits together. All the pupils had lots of fun and got on really well.

During Autumn Term 1, Peacock class are looking forward to weekly community learning in Asda. This will support PSHE, Maths and creating links in the community.

 

Topic

This half term, our topic is ‘Champions’, which focuses on the subject of PE and PSHE. During topic lessons, the pupils will be looking at parts of the body, different sports and activities, in order to help us to become fit and healthy. This will follow on to a hygiene and personal safety focus finishing off this half term with a week centred on healthy eating and what athletes like to eat. During this week we will use our weekly shop in Asda to look at the different healthy foods on offer. The other visit the pupils can part take in this half term will include a trip to an activity centre to support their sporting understanding.

 

Literacy

This half term we will be reading ‘The Paper Dolls’ by Julia Donaldson. This story is fun and enjoyable. The pupils will be learning about the characters within the story and will support the pupils creative and expressions of movement.

Each lesson will have a colourful semantics task, where some pupils will be developing their understanding of who questions or matching the main characters to toys or pictures.

In write dance sessions, the pupils will develop their fine motor skills by making colourful marks on a sporting theme.

This half-term pupils will be mark-making in skills sessions. This will support their creativity and help them to develop motor skills, whilst using technology. During computing topic sessions the pupils will be completing different tasks linked to our ‘Champions’ topic.
