Summer 1

Topic and science

We’ve had a great week learning about forces in topic and science.

Yellow class had a fantastic time at the Woodlands School community cafe! The children took their money and ordered a sweet treat and drink of their choice. We can't wait to go back for lunch one day soon.
We had a great time at bowling with the rest of year 5, practising our powerful push to bowl the ball down to the alley!

Maths

We've been working hard in maths this half term learning about money and ordinal numbers.

School council takeover day!

As part of year 5's science work I brought in my dog Jack and Tortoise Kevin. The children enjoyed looking after him for the morning.

Spring 1

We've been practising our Makaton signing this week- do you know what we are signing?
We've been very busy this half term. Here's a few photograph's of what we have been up to...
In topic/ science we are focussing on materials and their properties. We went for a walk and made bark rubbings on the rough tree bark and collected hard twigs. We then turned them into these amazing pieces of artwork!

Welcome back to the Spring Term. We have a busy term ahead learning about materials and their properties and focussing on rhyme and poetry in English. We will continue to develop our maths skills in all areas but particularly our number formation.

Our school value for this half term is determination! In the first week back both the adults and children in yellow class set ourselves a goal- something that we can achieve in the next six week. I have sent home your child's individual goal so you can support them with reaching it at home too. We will let you know how we have got on.

We have a lovely craft and afternoon tea planned in week 3 with our buddy class- Toucan from East in week 3 and in week 5 we'll be popping to the shops to buy some items ready for Enterprise week in Spring 2!

Autumn 2

Values- co-operation

Eamonn was awarded the co-operation certificate in yellow class this half term. He has been working to help his peers, especially during PE lessons.

Yellow class went to swap our pumpkin with our buddy class and then had a play on the equipment at East.
Yellow class went pumpkin picking with their buddy class from East- Toucan Class. The children enjoyed meeting each other and picking a perfect pumpkin. The children then came back to school to design a pumpkin for their friends and then decorated it. We then went to East to swap our pumpkins over on Halloween.

Autumn 1

Harvest Time

We made a fantastic Harvest loaf for our Harvest assembly and we went on a nice autumn walk in the sunshine to collect some conkers!

Trip to the Zoo!

Yellow class had a fantastic day in the sunshine at Whipsnade Zoo. We got to see lots of different jungle animals. The giraffes were very interested in saying hello to us and the new tiger cubs were fast asleep under a tree. We also got to feel some fur, feathers and scales during our educational talk.

We're Going to the Zoo!

Yellow class have been singing this song all week ahead of our visit to the Zoo!

Becoming Jungle Explorers!

Maths

This week in Maths we have been exploring patterns. Copying, making and continuing repeating patterns in different sequences.

Hello and welcome back to another school year, my name is Emma and I am yellow classes teacher. We have two TA2's- Michelle in the morning and Molly in the afternoon and our TA's are Sandra, Emma and John. There are 8 boys in Yellow class and they have settled in well already.

Our topic this half term is Let's Go Wild- we will be learning all about jungle animals and different habitats. This week we have become jungle explorers making cameras, binoculars and a safari jacket. We made a monkey themed Welcome to Yellow Class display- have a look at the photo below! The children are looking forward to our trip to the Zoo!

Our book in English is Star Party- from the Tilly and friends series on cbeebies. The children have already started learning all the characters and the type of animals that they are.

I look forward to meeting you at Meet the Teacher in a few weeks time. Please keep looking back to see what we have been up to!
