Summer 2

Food Tasting

We had a food tasting session this afternoon to try new foods to potentially go on the menu next academic year. The pupils were given cards tick to what they thought: very yummy, yummy, OK & not nice.  It was a very successful tasting and the pupils had a great time.

Summer 1

Mead Open Farm

Welcome back

We have another fun filled half term in Penguin class. You can see most of what we will be up to this half term in the overview below however, I'll just add a few details.

Our topic is "Down on the Farm" which is a really enjoyable topic as we get to go to the farm and see the animals! I find children really relate to this topic and get a lot out of it. Penguin class will be visiting Mead Open Farm on Monday 30th April, let's hope we get nice weather for it. Also on 8th May, we have an "Animal Encounter" coming in, so we will have the farm come to us! Very exciting.

Don't forget if you ever have any specific questions just pop them in the homeschool book and I'll get back to you with an answer.

Welcome back

to another fun-filled half term in Penguin class. Our topic this half term is "Leave Your Mark" which is naturally connected to mark making. We will be doing lots of activities associated with mark making. We will leave our mark with papier mache, clay, printing, brass rubbings, making collages, and taking photographs.
As we work through our topic we will be working with different materials investigating their properties and testing them in different ways.

In English our book this half term will be "The Colour Monster", there is a Youtube version of the story here: You can purchase your own copy if you wish. The book looks at the different feelings of a monster and associates them with colours. We will link it in with some work on emotions.

In Maths we will continue to teach a broad curriculum and link it to our topic lessons whenever we can. Please do use any opportunity when you are out with your children to do simple Maths with them. This can be counting steps or looking for shapes, every little thing will help your child.

We will be going on a trip to Ashridge on the 7th March to do different rubbings on a variety of surfaces, we may even go for lunch at McDonald's!

In Cookery we will be making cookies, each week we will use a different recipe so we make a variety of cookies. We'll send them home each week so look in your child's bag on a Tuesday evening.

We'll keep you updated via the home/school book and if you have any questions do keep in contact using them.

Fireworks

Here are some photos of Pengiun class making some firework pictures using paint blowing!

Welcome back to another fun filled half term in Penguin class. Our topic this half term is Whizz bang which is naturally connected to fireworks. We will be doing lots of activities associated with colour and light, making firework pictures and learning about some of the religious festivals that occur at this time of year. We will learn about Diwali, Bonfire night and before we know it, it will be Christmas.

It's not all fun and games though we will be looking at light and dark and trying to identify different light sources and studying our shadows.

In English our book this half term will be "The Gingerbread man", there are lots of different versions of the story which are all similar so it you chose to read it at home with your children it doesn't matter which version you use. Luton Central Library will almost certainly have several copies or you can buy it from places like Amazon. If you would like to watch an animated version with your children, the version that can be found here is one we have used in school.

In Maths we will continue to teach a broad curriculum and link it to our topic lessons whenever we can. Please do use any opportunity when you are out with your children to do simple Maths with them. This can be counting steps or looking for shapes, every little thing will help your child.

Last of all we're very excited about our big Christmas trip to Gullivers Land on the 15th December. The children will get to meet Father Christmas and try out lots of exciting rides.

Please continue to use the home/school books as a link between home and school and we look forward to inviting you in for our Christmas production!

Penguins visited Red Class!

Welcome to Penguin class and welcome to Richmond Hill to those of us who joined us in September. I am David the Class Teacher and I am assisted by Clare, Vicky, Kelly and Marie. We have an exciting first half term planned; we will be learning all about ourselves in our topic "all about me". We will be finding out what we like and dislike, finding out the names of different body parts and generally getting to know each other better.

In English we will be doing some work around the book "Monkey Puzzle" by Julia Donaldson as it fits in with our topic nicely. There's a lovely song signed in Makaton by Julia Donaldson which can be found here.

In Maths we will be learning new skills and exploring challenges in new and creative ways to help the children learn effectively.

We have PE twice a week on a Monday and a Thursday, we keep the children's PE kits in school and we will send them home for washing at half term.

This year we have partnered up with Red class at West site to help the children make new friends and have new experiences. We will have some joint trips over the course of the year. Do also have a look at their section of the website to see what they're getting up to.

If you want any more information on anything just message me via the home/school book.
