Summer 1

Welcome back to another fun packed half term in Sapphire Class. We have a fantastic topic to take us into the warmer months, it's called "Show Time" and is all about the circus and learning different circus skills.

We will be trying our hand at skills such as juggling, stilts, being clowns, balancing, and even magic! We are very lucky to have a professional Circus workshop in school on Thursday 30th April run by a company called "Splat" you can read more about them here: http://splatsentertainment.com/circus-skills-schools/

In the last week of half term we will be having our own circus in school where the children will perform their own act! This is pencilled in for Thursday 21st May in the afternoon but we will send you a letter nearer the time to confirm.

In Literacy we are reading a story called "The Circus Parade" about a little boy who wants to go to the circus. You can buy it from Amazon here. We have already been doing lots of fun activities based around the story.

In Maths we will continue to looking at interesting and creative ways to teach number, shape and spatial awareness.

At present we have no trips planned but this may change so keep an eye on your child's home school book for more details.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to get in touch.

Spring 2

Welcome back! We have a very short half term ahead with a lot to pack in, so we'll be on our toes the whole time. Our topic this half term is called "Town and Country". This will involve us looking at the differences between the town and country, from houses, to jobs and scenery. It will involve many trips out of school. Some will be just around Luton, while on other occasions we intend to go out and experience the sights, sounds, and smells of the countryside. If you want to help your children with this topic the best thing to do is take them out, just around your local area to see what they can see and also out to the countryside.

In Literacy we will be reading a new book by Julia Donaldson called Monkey Puzzle, all about a little monkey who needs to find his mum. If you want to read it at home with your children I'm sure there are copies in the various libraries in Luton - or alternatively it be bought from Amazon by following this link. This half term includes World Book day on Thursday 5th March. We will send out details closer to the time, but we will be asking the children to come in dressed as a book character on that day.

In Maths we will continue our quest to find new things to count, and new ways to explore space and position - as well as new ways to find shapes. We will also be using a story "One Mole Digging a Hole" as a stimulus to help the children count, it is a lovely simple story, and should you wish to buy a copy it can be purchased from amazon by clicking here

We also have Red Nose Day coming up on the 13th March where we will asking for a small donation and painting children's faces so they look "funny", it promises to be an interesting day.

In the last week of term we intend to invite you all in for fun Easter activities in class and an Easter Egg hunt around the school. Keep an eye on your child's home school book for more details nearer the time.

We're all rested and ready for another packed half term in Sapphire Class. Our topic this half term is called "Pictures, Paintings and photographs", a very art based topic.Throughout the half term we will be looking at different artists and creating art in different ways incorporating sculptures. Any simple art activities you do with your child at home will complement our topic.

In Literacy we are focussing on "Sid the Sock Eating Monster By Awen Little, all about a monster that lives in a washing machine and eats socks! If you want to read this at home with your child it is available from Amazon here. You can also do simple matching activities with socks at home, and who knows you might get them helping with the washing.
In Numeracy we will continuing to look at creative ways of counting, finding shapes, exploring position and using all of our knowledge in different ways.

We don't have any big trips planned for this term, although we are looking at a trip to Marston Vale Forest to explore nature which will enhance our science lessons and it is likely we will go in search of Sculptures too.
As always if you have any questions at all do not hesitate to get in touch

Autumn 2

We're all rested and ready for another packed half term in Sapphire Class. Our topic this half term is called "Let there be light", and where else could we start but with Fireworks. Throughout the whole half term we will be looking at different light sources and different ways of making light. Any practical activities you do at home around this will help your children, even if it is simply shining a torch in their bedroom at night. Towards the end of term we hope to join other classes in our Year Group to put on a simple play for you and we will let you know more nearer the time.

In Literacy across the school we are focusing on Traditional Tales. In Sapphire Class we are reading Hansel and Gretel and will be doing lots of fun activities around this. There are lots of different versions of the story available and it is very likely we will use more than one so if you wish to read to your children at home you can use any version of the story.

In Numeracy we will continuing to look at creative ways of counting, finding shapes, exploring position and using all of our knowledge in different ways.

We don't have any big trips planned for this term, although it is likely we will go to Ashridge Woods and look for a Gingerbread house and closer to Christmas we will likely go and visit a seasonal display.

Please do send in any clean recycling from home, plastic bottles, metal cans, cartons, you name it we'll have it but please do not send in glass.

We are swimming this term so please ensure you send in a named swimming costume and towel every week along with any additional products your child may need.

PE lessons are on a Tuesday so please ensure your child has their PE kit in school ready for this.

Please do write in the home/school books as this enables us talk to the children about things they have been doing at home.
