Welcome to Canary’s class page
Hello and welcome to the new school year! First let me introduce you to the staff in Canary Class. The teacher’s are Hannah and Sarah. We also have Kelly, our TA2 along with Hollie and Sam, our TAs. We are all very excited to be working with your children and are looking forward to a great year. There are 7 children in Canary Class who are already settling in really well.
Our Topic
Our topic this half term is “All About Me.” Through this topic we will find out about who is in our class and begin to think about things we like and dislike. Children will also look carefully at their faces in a mirror and will name their facial features as well as their body parts. Towards the final few weeks we will do lots of work around our senses of sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing.
English
Throughout this half term we will be reading “The Paper Dolls” by Julia Donaldson. This is a fun and enjoyable story which will allow us to do lots of interesting activities with the children. We will be learning about the characters within the story and will create our very own paper dolls. We will also use colourful semantics to help pupils develop their understanding of ‘who’ questions as well as questions about what the characters are doing.
In write dance sessions, we will be working hard to develop our fine motor skills by making colourful marks using an ‘Our Bodies’ theme. Children will have lots of opportunities to develop their skills using felt pens, playdough, tweezers, scissors and playdough.
Amazon’s description of the book:
-
The Paper Dolls is a stunning, rhythmical story of childhood. A string of paper dolls goes on a fantastical adventure through the house and out into the garden. They soon escape the clutches of the toy dinosaur and the snapping jaws of the oven-glove crocodile, but then a very real pair of scissors threatens…
Maths
This half term, in Maths, we will be covering one strand a week. The strands are –
-
Number
-
Geometry
-
Measure
Through these strands, children will explore numbers, shapes, measuring such as how tall we are and positional language such as ‘on top,’ ‘behind’ or ‘under.’
Computing
In Computing, children will be focussing on mark making using a range of technology. This will support their creativity and will help them to develop motor skills. During computing topic sessions the pupils will be completing different tasks linked to our ‘All About Me’ topic.
