Welcome to Woodpecker’s class page, let me introduce you to our staff…  I am Laura the Class Teacher, Beth is our TA2 and we have our teaching assistants Theresa, Becky and Maria.  The pupils in Woodpecker class are: Ayaan, Adyan, Ethan, Harjot, Lawrence, Mahir, Zain and Zayan.

 

During Summer Term 2, Woodpecker class are looking forward to the opportunities to learn in the outside environment. We will be practicing our athletics skills ready for sports day activities and rehearsing a special performance for Richmond Hill’s annual East meets West fest.

Topic

This half term, our topic is ‘Splish, Splash, Splosh’, which focuses on the subject of Science. During topic lessons Pupils are to experience, investigate and explore with water. The topic curriculum is split into weekly themes: Floating and sinking; Change of state, Water experiments, Personal Hygiene, Capacity and Water fun! As part of the topic the pupils will be visiting a splash park in week 5.

Literacy

This half term we will be reading ‘the Crunching, Munching Caterpillar’ by Sheridan Cain. This story is fun and enjoyable. The pupils will be learning about the characters within the story and creating lovely arty representations of each flying creature the caterpillar meets along his way.

Each lesson will have a colourful semantics task, where some pupils will be developing their understanding of who questions or matching the main characters to toys or pictures.

In write dance sessions, the pupils will develop their fine motor skills by drawing a caterpillar made up of shapes.

 

Amazon’s description of the book: Caterpillar longs to be able to fly. He enview Bumblebee his wings, and he wishes he could soar through the air like a bird. But all he can do is crunch and munch his way through a blackberry bush. When Butterfly comes along she smiles a secret smile because she knows something Caterpillar doesn't!

 

Maths

In maths we will be continuing  learning in the areas of number, geometry and measure. We will be continuing our focus on joining in with number rhyme; verbally and through actions. In geometry, the pupils will be looking at different 2D and 3D shapes. Some pupils will be encouraged to find the properties of the shapes and others will be matching, rolling and stacking different shapes. pupils will get the chance to work on money; looking at the different coins and completing the exchanging process ‘shopping role play’. ICT

This half-term pupils will be exploring different learning programs in order to consolidate the knowledge and the skills they have developed in computing during this academic year.  We will be specifically using the programs busy things and education city to support cross curricular learning through interactive games.

Summer 1

Animal Encounter 

We met lots of different animals at school including, Tortoise's, Guinea Pigs, Rabbits, Owls & Chickens!

Mead Open Farm

We had a great time at Mead Open Farm. We fed sheep and met lots of cute Rabbits!

Cookery

We made fruit kebabs using Bananas, kiwi, apples and oranges!

Gardening

We had great fun gardening with Vicky. We planted Pea, Radish & Cress Seeds.

Welcome to Woodpecker class page, let me introduce you to our staff…  I am Laura the Class Teacher, Beth is our TA2 and we have our teaching assistants Theresa, Becky and Maria.  The pupils in Woodpecker class are:  Ayaan, Adyan, Ethan, Harjot, Lawrence, Mahir, Zain and Zayan.

 

During Spring Term 2,Woodpecker class are looking forward to enjoying Aga’s music sessions, a planned trip to jump to support our PE lessons and world book day; where all pupils and staff will be invited to wear their pajamas to school for the day.


Topic

This half term, our topic is ‘Leave your mark’, which focuses on the subjects of Art and DT. During topic lessons Pupils are to experience and practically explore different mediums of art. They are to design (where appropriate) and make a structure/ sculpture from different materials such as clay, paper mache, salt dough and plasticine. This topic allows the pupils to be explorative and creative with freedom to make their own work. Pupils are to experience and engage in a range of messy art activities which result in a piece that reflects their own unique creativity.

 

Literacy

This half term we will be reading ‘Mouse Paint’ by Ellen Stoll Walsh. This story has a lovely link to our art based topic sessions and Science though colour mixing and experimenting with paint. 

Amazon’s description of the book: "Mouse Paint" is a lighthearted introduction to color concepts for children. Three white mice find three jars of paint - red, blue, and yellow. They jump in and out, dance in the puddles, and discover some amazing things - things like green...and orange...and purple

Yet they never forget about the cat.

 

Maths

In maths we will be covering the areas of number, geometry and measure. We will be continuing our focus on joining in with rhyme; verbally and through actions. In number the pupils will be encouraged to rote count passed the numbers they are comfortable with, pupils will get the chance to work on number formation and look at the date each day. In lessons focused on measure will we be working with money in differentiating ways to suit all pupils within the class. This will also support the pupils’ PSHE work, with the outlook that, at some point in the year they may be able to transfer these skills into the wider community. ICT

This half term the ICT skills focus is programming and coding. The pupils will work with Beebots/floor turtles to input instructions via pressing buttons in order to make them move.

Welcome to Woodpecker class page, let me introduce you to our staff…  I am Laura the Class Teacher, Nikki is our TA2 and we have our teaching assistants Theresa, Beth and Becky.  The pupils in Woodpecker class are:  Ayaan, Adyan, Ethan, Harjot, Lawrence, Mahir, Zain and Zayan.

 

During Spring term 1 we have lots of exciting things to enjoy at school, including; visiting the theatre as a whole key stage, creating a class production and visiting the other site to see our friends there.

Topic

This half term, our topic is ‘It’s Showtime’, which focuses on the subjects of Music and drama. During topic lessons pupils will be experiencing a variety of performance mediums and will get the chance to engage in activities. The pupils will practice each part of a whole performance over the half term. A performance will then be put together and filmed to show to the rest of the year group. The pupils will also be expected to watch others performances and show reactions of like or dislike.

 

Literacy

This half term we will be reading ‘we’re Going on a Bear hunt’ by Michael Rosen. The creative use of onomatopoeia and words to describe the sounds the character creates will link well to our topic activities and support the pupils learning of roleplay, musicality and movement.

In maths we will be covering the areas of number, geometry and measure. We will be continuing our focus on joining in with rhyme and filling in missing numbers. Working  with different 2D shape will be a focus in geometry and in lessons concentrating on measure will we study length and look at how tall and short each pupil is. ICT

This half term the ICT skills focus is animation. The pupils will be using the 2animate program to create their own electronic paintings in an order selection, which when put together generate a moving picture/scene.

During Autumn term 2 we have lots of exciting things to enjoy at school, including; productions, a christmas market, special trips and a fireworks party.

 

Topic

This half term, our topic is ‘Whizz Bang, which focuses on the subjects of PSHE and Science. During topic lessons pupils will be learning about light and dark; where different light sources can be found and creating shadows or silhouettes. Part of the topic will be to support the pupils understanding of how light is used in different celebrations such as Divali- the festival of light or bonfire night- through bonfires and fireworks displays.

 

Literacy

This half term we will be reading ‘The Gingerbread Man’ originally a traditional tale and adapted into many different versions, of which we will be reading a few. Activities such as making our own gingerbread men and creating our own characters to add to the story will accompany the book lessons.

Amazon’s description of the book: Run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch him, he's the Gingerbread Man! But although he may be able to out-run everyone, can the Gingerbread Man outwit the cunning fox?

 

Maths

In maths we will be covering the areas of number, geometry and measure. We will be continuing our focus on joining in with rhyme and recognition of numbers. The identification of basic 2D shape will be a focus in geometry and in lessons concentrating on measure will we study hot and cold alongside capacity/waterplay and big and small . ICT

This half term the ICT skills focus is storytelling. The pupils will be creating pictures based on the traditional tale ‘The Gingerbread Man’ we are reading in Literacy. The pictures the pupils create will be printed and photos of them will be taken around the school on a storytelling app on the Ipad. This app is designed to collate the pictures taken onto a simple slideshow, where the pupils can add their own sounds or say certain words/phrases.

Topic

This half term, our topic is All about me, which focuses on the subjects of PSHE and Science. During topic lessons, pupils will be learning about themselves, where the different senses will be studied and the pupils will learn to communicate their likes and dislikes. An emphasis will be put on the pupils learning to accept others in the classroom and create friendships with their peers. We will be visiting our buddy up class at West site to have a tea party with our friends over there.

 

Literacy

This half term we will be reading ‘Silly Billy’ By Anthony Browne’. The story links to our topic as it supports the pupils to learn about their own emotions and feelings, which we will be working on during the lessons, and how to deal with certain situations.   

Amazon’s description of the book: Billy is a bit of a worrier. He worries about hats and shoes. He worries about clouds and rain and giant birds. Most of all he worries about staying at other people's houses.
