Curriculum Map

Wow that half term went very quickly! We hope that you all enjoyed the weeks break and had lots of fun!

This term our topic is called, ‘Whizz Bang’. It is a science based topic which is linked to celebrations such as Diwali and Bonfire night. To help us each week will have a different focus, these are listed below:

Week one: Diwali

Week two: Bonfire Night/fireworks

Week three: Night and day

Week four: Shadows

Week five: Light and dark colours

Week six: Light toys and circuits

Week seven: Christmas

Week eight: Christmas

During these weeks we will do lots of creative activities. We will create firework art, clay divas and make different coloured lights using torches.

For Literacy this term our main text is, ‘The Gingerbread Man’.  Pupils will work on their speaking listening, reading and writing skills linked to the text. This will also involve some creative activities to help our fine motor skills and sensory activities such as writing in shaving foam to support our handwriting skills. In addition to this we will also carry out, ‘Write Dance’, which is an approach and method that provides movement opportunities so children can develop the physical skills needed to develop their handwriting skills. The movement is driven by music and the aim is to also build confidence. Literacy is also encompassed with handwriting and phonics. In phonics we will continue to learn the letter sounds and encourage children to read by segmenting and blending the words.

In maths we will be covering the areas of number, geometry and measure. We will cover these areas and link them to topic making the lessons fun and engaging.

In cookery this term we are making short crust/filo pastry tarts. We will make them with different fillings each week. This will incorporate different skills such as rolling, using cutters and spreading fillings.

I will update the page regularly with pictures of the children enjoying their learning so that you can see their journey as we go through the year.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to write in the home/school book.
