Summer 2

This half term, Pearl class will be basing their learning around the story of 'Aliens Love Underpants'.  We will be doing lots of drama, role play and acting alongside writing our own versions of the story.

Our topic is 'Fun in the Sun' which will include a range of science experiments, learning about sun safety and of course having lots of fun in the sun!  Sam's Snack Shop will be open in our classroom every morning break time and the children will take turns to be the shopkeeper (developing their money skills).  This is the final half term of this year so we will be reflecting on the fantastic year that we have had and performing as a class at the festival.

Summer 1

We are very excited for the summer term in Pearl Class. Our topic this term is ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ which requires the children to become scientists and weather reporters. We will be helping ‘Sid

the Scientist’ each week with his science experiments and will also be looking after our new class plant and our sea creature aquarium.

In literacy our story is ‘Room on the Broom’. We will be designing our own broomsticks and creating potions for the witch’s cauldron.

In maths we will be developing our number work and will continue to apply our money skills each day at ‘Sam’s snack shop’.

Thursday 4th May - trip to Stanborough Lakes.

Wednesday 17th May – trip to Pets At Home and Sainsbury’s.

Monday 3rd July - class trip which will be voted for by the children.

Friday 7th July – summer fete.

Spring2 Update

In ICT this term the children have been learning how to use PowerPoint and how to research information safely on the internet. The children choose a topic to find out about and they typed information, changed fonts and colours of text, imported clip art and images from the web, added in animations and designs and some even embedded videos and sounds onto their PowerPoint. The children then stood up and presented their presentations to the rest of years 5/6.

Spring 2

This half term in literacy, Pearl class focusing on the story of ‘Handa’s Hen’. This is similar to the story from last half term, Handa’s Surprise - the children loved it so much we decided to continue learning with Handa.

In maths we will continue to develop our number work and ‘Sam’s Snack Shop’ will be running every snack time. This is a fantastic way for the children to practise using real money to buy their own snack food every day and they love it!

Our topic is ‘The United Kingdom’.  We have already got off to an amazing start with the RHS Bake Off competition when we designed, baked and decorated a spectacular pizza cake and a fish and chips cake.  Well done Pearl Class!

Bake Off Entry

The children in Pearl class are: Husnain, Hannah, Aliyah, Lazim, Sohail, Damian, Raees and Waseem.

The adults in the class are: Jacqueline (Teacher), Michelle (TA2), Lynda, Sam and Kimberley.

Our topic this half term is 'Fit as a Fiddle' where we will be learning all about living a healthy lifestyle and making healthy choices.  We will be going on several brilliant trips including JUMP (trampoline world and the St Albans outside gym.  Every week we will be doing a different morning exercise including zumba, cosmic yoga, tag rugby, skipping, lap running and assault courses.

In literacy we are looking at the story ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ which links in very well with our ‘Fit as a Fiddle’ topic.  This will include writing our own newspaper reports based on the ‘giant’ vegetables we will find around school.

In maths we follow the usual cycle of a different focus every week.  The first themes are: time, number, shape, money, measure, position, and statistics.

Keep looking for updates on our class page!
