Leighton Buzzard Splash Park

Summer 2

I can’t believe this is the last update of the year, it has flown by.

In English this half term we are starting by reading ‘The very silly shark’. After two or three weeks we will move on to another story related to our Topic ‘under the sea’.

During Maths this half term we are beginning by number, before working on capacity and temperature.

In Topic this half term our theme is ‘under the sea’. There is a Science focus as well as sub-focuses on Geography, PE and PSHE.

In cooking we are going to be making biscuits, building up independence as the weeks go on.

This half term we are planning on going on three trips. First we are going to Leighton Buzzard Splash Park as part of our topic. We then are going to visit our friends at Offley Place Park for a relaxed morning out. And lastly we plan on going to Whipsnade zoo as an end of term treat.

Summer 1

We are looking forward to a very short yet busy half term in Toucan class as the weather starts to improve and the end of the academic year appears on the horizon.

In English this half term we are going to continue to read the story of Jack and the beanstalk for the first two weeks, the children have enjoyed the story so far. After that our lessons will focus around ‘The enormous turnip’ until the end of the half term.

During Maths this half term we will continue to complete work on measure- looking at first time and then weight. After that we will be learning about position and direction for two weeks before looking at shape again for the last two weeks.

The children will be learning about different types of food and which foods are healthy. We will also be creating arts and crafts ready for our very own school market on Thursday 25th May. Lessons will have a Science and PSHE focus on Mondays and an Art and DT focus on Fridays. Toucan class are going to visit the indoor market at ‘The Mall’ on Thursday 27th April.

In cooking this half term we are making pastries and pies. Each week we will have a different main ingredient for the pie related to the colour of the week. The children will be encouraged to become more independent in making the pastry each lesson.

Welcome to the newly named Toucan class page.

We are Toucan class

After an action-packed half term, we look forward to an even busier half term as we build up to the Christmas holidays.

This half term in our English lessons we will be continuing to read Goldilocks and the three bears, which we started before half term. The children enjoy this story and many can already name the characters.

We will base our English lessons around this book for three weeks and then move on to Hansel & Gretel for the remaining four weeks. Each class at East site will be doing that same story.

This half term our topic is ‘Where is bear?’. Each week our class bear will visit different countries and we will learn about those cultures and produce art work related to the country. I hope you have enjoyed the food we have been coking- more delicious food will be coming this half term as well.

As ever if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me through the home school book.

Welcome to class 1 (permanent name to be confirmed soon).

Our topic this half term is “The things people do”. Each week we will be looking at a different job that people do in our topic work. So far we have learnt about doctors and nurses and chefs, with hairdressers, firemen and policemen, postmen and shop assistants still to come. Our topic lessons

usually involve role play, art or a mixture of the two.

In our English lessons we have been reading “The gingerbread man” and will continue to do so for the next few weeks.

We have cooking every Friday which is a good way to experience maths, PSHE and English all in one lesson (as well as having fun). We have been sending home the goodies we have made- hopefully you are enjoying them.

PE is on Wednesday and Friday mornings this year, as seen in the timetable that I sent home for parents.

For any further information or questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards,

Elliot
