Summer 2

iPad Camera Functions

One child in Pearl class has been exploring the different functions on the iPad camera...they are great!

Best Friends!

The children were given 'free' time on the iPads - they took some brilliant selfies of themselves together - BEST FRIENDS!

Sunset Pictures

Pearl class have created some spectacular sunset African pictures using paints and black stencils.

The children experimented with mixing different paint colours together to make lighter and darker shades.

Growing Up!

In Pearl class we have starting learning about 'growing up' with a big focus on public / private, keeping safe and keeping ourselves clean (hygiene for teeth, hair, nails, clothing and full body).  The children worked in pairs to draw around each other and then drew their own body parts and features - most drew themselves a huge, happy smile.

Royal Mail!

For two days this half term Pearl class were 'employed' by the Royal Mail - the service of HRH Queen Elizabeth.  Everyone dressed up as postmen / postwomen and we delivered leaflets around the neighbourhood to promote the RHS Summer Fete.

Whipsnade Zoo

Pearl class were lucky enough to go on a trip to Whipsnade Zoo on Wednesday 13th June 2018.  It was perfect for our topic because we got to see DIFFERENT ANIMALS, from DIFFERENT PLACES around the world.

Update

We have had a great half term and have been practising our speaking and listening by making phone calls to different Superheroes.

We made our own magic potions as part of our story 'George's Marvellous Medicine'  - some were delicious and some were disgusting!

Herring Green Farm

We had a wonderful trip on Wednesday to Herring Green Farm in Bedford.  This was part of our topic 'Up, Up and Away'.  We got to see over 60 different types of bird and were lucky enough to handle an owl and a bird of prey.  We then learnt about skunks, bearded dragons and guinea pigs.  It was super!

Cookery 2!

Cookery

This half term we have making different types of stir fry, focusing on using different equipment safely and developing our chopping skills! We have also enjoyed tasting the end product :)

Pearl Class Question's to Woodlands

With our year 6 children heading off to high school next year. Our children asked Woodlands students some questions they had on their mind!

Download the document below to see the questions and responses.

Autumn 2 Update

The children in Pearl class each had their own sparkler which they loved using to make shapes and spell their name.  Sparklers are one of the 'light sources' which the children have been learning about.  They also explored a halloween pumpkin and learnt about candles being a source of light.

David and Sanya found some magic beans when out in the garden area - they could be the magic beans from our story 'Jack and the Beanstalk'.

We all had great fun playing 'guess who's in the box' when Jacqueline bought in a giant cardboard box one day!

Please take a look at our Curriculum Map below. This will give you an insight to what we are up to this half term!

Please check back for more updates.

Whipsnade Trip

On Thursday 21st September 2017 Pearl class went on a trip to Whipsnade Zoo as part of the 'Let's Go Wild' topic.

It was FANTASTIC!  The children were lucky enough to ask the zoo keeper some questions about the giraffes and got to see a baby zebra and baby giraffe.

Autumn 1

This half term in literacy, Pearl class are focusing on the story of ‘Walking Through The Jungle’. We will be doing lots of descriptive writing and imagining we are on our own jungle adventure. We will write a diary entry of our jungle experience and roleplay being different characters.

In maths we will be rotating each week by focusing on number, shape, position and measure. Every day we will practice using money at our class snack shop. This is a fantastic way for the children to practise using real money to buy their own snack food every day and they love it!

Our topic is ‘Let’s Go Wild’ which we are all very excited about – especially as we will have a trip to the Zoo in the third week of September. The children will learn about different animals, their habitats and diets.

We will be having a RHS Burger Bake Off as part of our cookery.
