'Fit as a Fiddle' work
Wed 24 Sep 2014Yesterday we were lucky to have Gary and Sarah who are both nurses come into school to do some work with years 5&6 as part of their topic work.

Update for amber class - looking for shapes around the school and conducting a survey about the number of things around the building, also added are some literacy work in the playground and some science work with food colouring, milk and washing up liquid here
Silver class page updated with photos of them making doughnuts and some of the topic work using magnets here
Gold class page shows them making a banana loaf, doing some topic work and looking at 2d and 3d shapes in numeracy here

Drivers and escorts afternoon with year 1 & 2
Mon 22 Sep 2014Last week years 1 & 2 held a special afternoon picnic for the drivers and the escorts who bring the children to and from school.
The weather was lovely and it gave everyone the opportunity to meet each other in a relaxed environment.
Thank you to Angela and year 1 & 2 who organised the afternoon and thank you to the drivers and escorts who came and joined in.

Wed 10 Sep 2014We are pleased to announce the launch of our very own signing service which will be led by Lucy. Lucy has her own page here
We are going to have a 'Sign of the Week' and some 'themed topic' signs. We are hoping to feature some signs on our website but everything can be watched on Richmond Hill TV. (Ask your teacher for login details, there is a tutorial how to login to Richmond Hill TV here)

New dates added to the calendar
Tue 09 Sep 2014New dates have been added to the calendar.
There will be 'meet the teacher' mornings or afternoons depending on your time slot. It is organised by Maggie and Dil (The family worker team) and it gives a great opportunity for you to meet with your child's teacher, have a hot drink and a few biscuits!
Also added is a 'wear a hat' day on the 9th October to help raise money for the Happy Days charity. Happy Days have funded many trips and outings for the children here so we would like to do something as a thank you for them. We hope the day will be a bit of fun.
Reminders will be sent in the school/home books so keep a look out

Power walks
Mon 08 Sep 2014It may only be the first Monday back but classes are establishing daily routines already.
As a school we are very lucky to be surrounded by wooded parkland and it is the perfect place to have a quick walk around in the morning.
The idea of the walk allows the children to get some fresh air and get their hearts pumping ready for the day ahead. It has been successful for lots of children who find themselves better able to focus on the task in hand when it is time to work back in the classroom.
The children and adults are a hardy bunch as they go in all weathers. There has only been a handful of times when the weather just was too bad to go.
In addition to the power walks, some classes go to sensory circuits first thing, which you can read more about here and other classes do a 'Brain Gym' which involves full body exercises and movements in the classroom.

As you can see we are going global!

We're Fully Back!
Thu 04 Sep 2014It's official, we are back and raring to go for a new school year!
Over this half term, years 1&2 will be looking at 'The things people do', years 3&4 will be looking at 'What a load of junk' and years 5&6 will be doing 'Fit as a fiddle'.
Over the coming weeks we will be adding photos to the website and videos to our own Richmond Hill TV channel, so look out for updates.
